Season 1
- Episode 13 (Yami Bakura vs Yami Yuugi, in which everyone gets transformed into their favorite monster)
- Episode 28 (The night before the finals, because Yami Bakura explains shadow games)
- Episodes 35-40 (More Bakura-exposition on the Millennium Items, even though his sudden sidequest to go get Mokuba is going to give me a headcanon-headache)
Season 2
- Episodes 50-52 (MALIK’S INTRODUCTION. SHORTLY FOLLOWED BY ISHIZU’S. Also Bakura is cool and there’s a fire)
- Episodes 60-62 (Because I feel like the things Malik does to Pandora greatly inform his characterization)
- Episodes 65-70 (MIMES. MALIK’S STRATEGY-IS-WATER SPEECH. MALIK AND BAKURA MEET IN THE ALLEY. STABBY-NO-BAKURA. MALIK GETTING PUNCHED IN THE FACE)
- Episodes 75-78 (Duel on the pier.)
- Episode 79 (Yami Bakura’s cemetary duel 8|)
- Episode 81 (Getting on the ship, and Malik gives some tombkeeper exposition)
- Episodes 82-84 (Yuugi vs Bakura)
- Episodes 85-97 (…yes that’s the rest of the season but it’s ALL OF RISHID’S STORY AND ALL THE TOMBKEEPER BACKSTORY)
Season 3
- Episodes 125-128 (Malik vs Jounouchi)
- Episodes 138-142 (The finals)
Because this is extremely serious business.
YOU KNOW YOU LOVE PRETENTIOUSBAKUMALI. Go follow us. Now.

1. Name your favorite pairing from Yugioh!
Bakumali. Yes, it’s thiefshipping in a sense, and I use that term because it’s popular, but Bakumali separates it completely from any kind of association with TAS! versions of these characters.
2. Give 5 reasons why you like them as a pairing. These reasons can be purely the physical, stuff that happens in canon, or just personality traits.
Holy hell this is going to be long.
a) Physically speaking, they are perfect together. Almost more than perfect, really. As an artist their coloring and similar (and yet completely different) builds are incredibly complimentary. I could paint huge canvases in oil using the palette from these two and it would barely qualify as fanart. It would just be A MASTERPIECE.
b) They are complimentary personality-wise, too. Malik is cool and calculating, and often gets other people to do his dirty work for him, so that he can stand back and carefully observe. He doesn’t allow himself to feel the full extent of his own emotions because he will lose control. He is very much the opposite of Bakura, who works alone and tears into his life with just… everything he has. All the pain, all the rage, all the bloodlust. Bakura might be a spirit of a cursed Ring, but his brazeness —- all the flaws in his plans, the desire regardless of what happens to just live and see what happens, his willingness to lose just because it’s something that’s HIS and not anyone else’s —- is fascinating and incredible to Malik. That he can feel it all and not lose himself.
c) Bakura, for his part, only listens to Malik. NEVER anyone else. Not ever. Malik tells him to calm down and listen to him: he does. He is willing to try Malik’s strategies over his own (which he will always say are superior), and even when they are losing, he still sticks with Malik’s plan… because he trusts him. He trusts his intelligence. He trusts Malik’s will to win. It’s a true partnership.
d) They have seen and heard and done things that no mortal boy should do or see. They have been on the outskirts of this world and tread the line to the next. Bakura has been the Shadow Realm, which is a step further, but still, Malik is the only person who has come close to experiencing what he has. In a way, neither of them can be considered entirely human. In a world that one understands is so wide that the empty spaces far outweigh the filled, finding someone else —- someone you know, who you trust, who you can trade sassy insults with — in that Inbetween, that’s a precious thing.
e) They are spooky.
3. Give 5 (or more) bits of your personal headcanon for them~!
a) When they kiss, it’s hardly ever gentle, although it is never fake. They have to find compromise somewhere, and that Somewhere leaves bruises.
b) They practice Arabic together, once Bakura reveals that he’s been using his rudimentary knowledge to spy on the Ishtar’s breakfast conversation, which is often centered on Bakura getting some clothes on, to stop eating all of Ishizu’s sweet things, or moving out, or not opening the Dark Door, etc.
c) Bakura thinks that the true face of Malik’s soul is a monstrous creature, probably. He doesn’t know what it is yet, but he’s promised that if he burns the whole world down, he will take this monster-thing and hold it in his own soul room, where it’s nice and dark and Malik can breathe.
d) Bakura and Malik enjoy abandoned places. One of their first ‘dates’ is just wandering around some ruined building in Cairo, throwing rocks at the windows.
e) They don’t have a home, even though they currently live in a house. They don’t know what home is.
4. BONUS: at least one song that you ascribe to your pairing, even if it’s just based on your headcanon!
Currently, there are a few, although I listen to a LOT of Nine Inch Nails for them…
Deep by Nine Inch Nails
The Big Fight by Stars
Hurricane by The Hush Sound
and the original: Rolling in the Deep by Adele
etc <3
